A Seat at the Table

A Seat at the Table

FAITH TALK
with Danny Dodd

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14). This angel’s praise at the birth of Christ remains our praise. We are here to glorify God in the highest. Through the Christ we have “peace that passes understanding.” Let us worship him with all of our hearts!

We welcomed Ralph Pasquale to Levy last Sunday. Please personally meet and greet him. We love new members at Levy!

Check out our holiday schedule inside this bulletin and note the changes please. I do urge everyone to make a special effort to be here on Wednesday night, December 26 at 6:00 p.m. We will enjoy a special devotional period led by Joe Chesser followed by hot cocoa and cookies. I am looking forward to that!

Have you noticed some of our teens leaving after communion each Sunday this month? They journey to the Highlands assisted living home in North Little Rock to worship with the residents there. Levites do this each week, as well as doing the same at Pleasant Hills in Little Rock. Thanks to all who serve in this wonderful way!

As I have previously shared my preaching theme in 2019 is “Others.” One person who passionately lives out serving others among us is Mark Deal. Already our warming center has been open due to the cold. Mark also leads us in partnering with Family Promise to host unsheltered families. Thanks to Mark and to Dianna also for helping us to be aware of the needs of others in our community and to have the chance to minister to them in needed ways.

Tis the season for giving! Gifts accompanied the Magi’s visit to Christ some time after his birth. Meaningful and sacrificial giving has always been a mark of a disciple of Christ. Giving allows us to participate in the divine nature of God (since he is the giver of only good gifts—James 1:17) and in the divine mandate of generously and cheerfully giving from our heart (2 Corinthians 9:6-8). This season, give to someone in need. Give in order to honor God. Give from you, heart.

We are closing in on the last of our daily Bible readings. Thanks to everyone who has participated. Thanks for the positive input throughout the year. “Thy Word” continues to speak to us across the ages to encourage us all to love God and do his will.

I love you church!
